Dr. Mayank Pathak

Dr. Mayank S. Pathak, a board certified Movement Disorders Specialist, has been affiliated with the Parkinson’s & Movement Disorder Institute for almost twenty years. He graduated from George Washington University Medical School in 1991 before beginning his residency in Neurology at the University of California of Irvine Medical Center. He then completed two fellowships: one in spinal cord medicine at The Veteran’s Association Medical Center in Long Beach, and another in neurorehabilitation at the University of California of Los Angeles Medical Center. During his fellowships, Dr. Pathak gained experience in consultation for spinal cord injury patients and conducting EMG/Nerve Conduction Studies.

Dr. Pathak’s clinical interests include general neurology, spasticity, movement disorders such as Parkinson’s Disease and dystonia, seizure disorder, dementia, etc. At The Parkinson’s & Movement Disorder Institute, Dr. Pathak treats all neurological conditions and performs various procedures, such as EMG/NCS and administers botulinum toxin injections for dystonia, migraine, and spasticity. Additionally, Dr. Pathak is also involved in numerous clinical research trials researching cervical dystonia and Parkinson’s Disease. He serves as the sub-investigator for all studies conducted at PMD

Dr. Pathak was also engaged in clinical education; he served as a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Neurology at UCLA before becoming an Assistant Professor at the Charles Drew University in the Department of Neuroscience. Throughout his medical career, Dr. Pathak was also guest lectured at many symposiums and seminars at notable institutions such as UC Irvine and the V.A. Medical Center in Long Beach. In addition to the large amount of publications he has written and contributed to, Dr. Pathak collaborated with Dr. Daniel D. Truong to co-author several publications, notably, “The Spasmodic Torticollis Handbook,” “Manual of Botulinum Toxin Therapy,” and “Living Well with Dystonia.” He applied his broad talent as an artist and knowledge as medical practitioner as a literature reviewer at the Evidence Based Practice Center, RAND Agency, and contributed multiple medical illustrations to published books.

Research

Dr. Pathak is currently engaged in research in Parkinson’s disease, traumatic related dystonia and spasticity. Dr. Pathak is currently conducts a study evaluate the effect of a dopamine patch in the treatment of Parkinson's disease.
